Combat at the Capitale

Held in the beautiful venue The Capitale, once a bank, the event was booked to capacity. Lou Neglia, a former world champion kickboxer himself, has been promoting successful events in both New York and New Jersey for a number of years. Earlier events featured mostly American-style kickboxing (Full Contact). However, more recently, Neglia’s New York events has featured mostly Muay Thai with some Low Kick and American Kickboxing matches. With his successful MMA show, Ring of Combat, held in Atlantic City, many of the Capitale fighters are now up-and-coming MMA fighters, seeking to improve their stand-up by testing their skills in Muay Thai and Kickboxing matches.
This card was notable in the paucity of wins by decision. On a card of fifteen bouts, there were six technical knockouts and three knockouts. Fighters came into the ring game and determined to finish their fights early, leaving nothing to chance.
This event featured an amateur WKA State Title fight between Stephen Regman of Tiger Schulmann’s and Chul Choe of B-52 Muay Thai. The new New Jersey State Middleweight champion was Chul Choe, who won via TKO at the end of the first round.
In addition, this Capitale card featured four pro matches—one a Full Contact, the other three Muay Thai bouts. Jeff Lentz (Kurt Pellegrino/Ocean Co. Martial Arts) won a TKO in the third round over Sensei Majid (Team Venom). Rich Boine (Tiger Schulmann’s) scored a clean knockout over Mark LeCroulant (Mendez Boxing Gym). James “B-52” Smith hit a hard knockout in the closing seconds of the first round over independent fighter Jose Sulsona. Finally, in what many called the best fight of the night—a full four-round battle, with both fighters giving every moment of the fight their all—Kevin Molina (America’s Finest/Molina’s Martial Arts) won a hard-fought majority decision over Jim Rivera (Tiger Schulmann’s).
