PRESS RELEASE
WKA North American Combat Sports Championships bring together top amateur MMA and Muay Thai fighters and is topped off with any International Pro Fight Show Richmond, VA; July 1, 2007 - UFC Lightweight Champion Sean Sherk and UFC Champion/Ultimate 5 coach Jens Pulver are scheduled to attend the WKA North American Combat Sports Championships and Combat Sports Challenge 21 (CSC 21) evening Pro Fight Show. Both Sherk and Pulver will hold an MMA seminar on Friday, July 13, 2007 prior to day one of the two-day amateur tournament, which will be held on Saturday and Sunday July 14-15, 2007. Both will also be "special guests" at the pro fight show on Saturday evening. Combat Sports Challenge has established itself as one of the premiere fight shows in the east and CSC 21 is no exception, as it will feature an international card consisting of 6 professional MMA and Muay Thai bouts and an under card consisting of selected Amateur North American Title matches from the 2007 WKA North American Combat Sports Champions Tournament. Jens Pulver recently completed a successful season as coach of the Ultimate Fighter 5's winning team. Although the match with Penn didn't go his way, Pulver hopes to learn from the experience as he moves down to the 145 lb class. Sean Sherk is busy preparing for his first title defense against Hermes Franca at UFC 73 on July 7th. Franca and his always distinctive dyed hair will put his 19-5 fight career on the line against the muscle shark's uncanny ability to take people down and control them once their down. Both of these great fighters will be opening up their training manuals and giving the participants the secrets to their success at a pre event seminar Friday evening (July 13, 2007) at the Combat Sports Center (www.CombatSportsCenter.com) in Richmond, VA. On July 14-15 2007, the Combat Sports League sanctioned by the World Kickboxing Association USA will host a single elimination tournament to determine the best fighters in North America and to select members for the WKA US National team that will represent the U.S. at the 2007 WKA World Championships in Germany. As the WKA US Nationals have grown and WKA promoters have grown, it was a natural next step to expand the event into the North American Championships by adding our Canadian and Mexican neighbors. The 2007 North Americans will feature the top amateurs vying for the WKA NORTH AMERICAN TITLE. This event will feature both "Open" and "Novice" Divisions in both MMA and Muay Thai. The "Novice" division consists of competitors with no more than three (3) wins in any combat sport (boxing, Muay Thai, MMA, Kickboxing) and the "Open" division consists of amateurs with over three (3) wins in any combat sport. The divisions will fight down to the semi final and final matches on Saturday and the finals will be held on Sunday. For more information on these divisions, go to http://www.wkausa.com/north_Americans/2007/. The US Grappling Organization will conduct the gi and no-gi grappling portion of North Americans and this year they will have a special team division. Four representatives from each team will face off .The matches will be no-gi, tournament format. Each team will be awarded 5 points for each grappler finishing in first place, 3 points for 2nd place, and 2 points for 3rd place. Additionally, each submission win will count for 2 points. The winning 4-man team from the Team Challenge will receive $1,000 CASH.... AND... 200 overall Team Points. For more information on these divisions go to http://www.usgrappling.us/.
